1. And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron,

 when they offered before the LORD, and died;

2. And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother,

that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat,

which is upon the ark; that he die not:

for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

3. Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place:

with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

4. He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh,

and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired:

these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.

5. And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering,

and one ram for a burnt offering.

6. And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering,

which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.

7. And he shall take the two goats,

and present them before the LORD at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

8. And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats;

one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat.

9. And Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the LORD's lot fell, and offer him for a sin offering.

10. But the goat, on which the lot fell to be the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before the LORD,

to make an atonement with him, and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.

20. And when he hath made an end of reconciling the holy place,

and the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat:

21. And Aaron shall lay both his hands upon the head of the live goat,

and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel,

and all their transgressions in all their sins, putting them upon the head of the goat,

and shall send him away by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness:

22. And the goat shall bear upon him all their iniquities unto a land not inhabited:

and he shall let go the goat in the wilderness.
[KJV]

9. Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble:

mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

10. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing:

my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

11. I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours,

and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

12. I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.

13. For I have heard the slander of many:

fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

14. But I trusted in thee, O LORD:

I said, Thou art my God.

15. My times are in thy hand:

deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

16. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.
[KJV]

11. But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come,

 by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

12. Neither by the blood of goats and calves,

but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place,

having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean,

sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14. How much more shall the blood of Christ,

who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God,

purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15. And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death,

for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament,

they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
[KJV]

47. Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said,

What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

48. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him:

and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

49. And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year,

said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

50. Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people,

and that the whole nation perish not.

51. And this spake he not of himself:

 but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

52. And not for that nation only,

but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

53. Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

54. Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews;

but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim,

and there continued with his disciples.

55. And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand:

and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

56. Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple,

What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

57. Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that,

if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
[KJV]
